Dear LSC parents, players, & families,
We have all received many lengthy emails over the last few months regarding the current CoVid-19 pandemic so while we have much to cover, we will try to keep this message as brief and organized as possible, and we will continue to update you as new information becomes available.
Finger Lakes Region – Phase 4
First, Livonia is included in the NY Finger Lakes region and the current Phase 4 model prevents us from organizing any group activities until at least June 26.
RDYSL Season Canceled
Given the current Finger Lakes Phase 4 model, it is with great disappointment we share the news that RDYSL has cancelled its proposed shortened season beginning on June 21.
RDYSL Player Fees & LSC Fixed Costs
While this RDYSL season has been cancelled, many soccer clubs including the LSC have already absorbed many “fixed” annual costs that cannot be refunded to the club. With that in mind, the LSC board has voted unanimously to approve a $100 credit towards 2021 RDYSL player registration for each player in good standing.
While losing a single season will have a substantial impact on any small, non-profit sports club or organization such as the LSC, we are currently faced with the very real possibility of losing an entire year’s worth (RDYSL, Summer Rec, & Fall League) of revenue to support our activities.
To be transparent, here are a few of the 2020 LSC’s already paid fixed costs that cannot be refunded:
- Uniform kits: $12,000
- Field Maintenance: $7,000
- Player Insurance: $5,000
- Facility/Field Lease: $6,000
LSC Uniform Kits & Gear
Our new Joma player uniform kits, warm-ups, bags, etc. were ordered prior to the CoVid-19 pandemic and they have been delivered to our local supplier. As with many small businesses, our supplier was categorized as a non-essential business and forced to close for many weeks, but they are hopeful to return to work in the near future and to finalize the printing of names, numbers, and/or patches on all items. As soon as these items are complete, we will send a separate email regarding how we are able to distribute them in the safest and most convenient way possible so that all of our players can enjoy them.
LSC Summer Rec Canceled
Our fun, learning oriented Summer Rec program that serves our youngest children and has been the foundation for so many, if not the overwhelming majority, of our players has also been officially cancelled due to the current pandemic. The upcoming Summer Rec program would normally have been played from June 16 – July 16. With the current Finger Lakes Phase 4 projection, this is unfortunately no longer a possibility.
Our popular Fall League is currently in standby mode as we wait to see if the Phase 4 projections hold true. We will share more information about this as soon as it becomes available.
Upcoming LSC Soccer Activities
While many of us have been restricted to our homes the last couple of months, many of our dedicated volunteer coaches have worked tirelessly to keep players involved in new ways by emailing daily or weekly activities, sharing skill videos on Facebook, conducting virtual practices on Zoom, and more.
Although the RDYSL and Summer Rec seasons have been cancelled, our club board members and coaches have not given up and we will continue planning new activities in the hopes that our players are allowed to play again in the near future. We are continuing to discuss a variety of possible fun activities for our players to participate in when we are cleared to conduct group activities. As we get closer to that time, we will be in touch.
2020 Graduating Seniors
It is with an especially heavy heart that we are unable to watch our current Senior class players play their final season of RDYSL. Many of these players have participated in LSC leagues and activities for over a decade and have achieved great personal milestones both on and off the field. In addition to receiving their uniform kits and other gear, Senior player families will receive a $100 refund from the LSC to cover the loss of fees from their final season.
To all our Senior players who are now missing the 2020 season, you will be greatly missed, but not forgotten. You have had a tremendous impact on your coaches, family, and the younger players watching you from the sidelines. Enjoy the next step in your life’s progression and when the time is right, help us continue to give back to Livonia by becoming a coach, referee, volunteer or a LSC board member for the next generation of young players that look up to you!
2020 LSC Annual Senior Scholarship
Despite the current pandemic, the Livonia Soccer Club will still be offering its TWO $500 annual scholarships to graduating seniors. The LSC Board members will review applications and vote on the winners. Applicants are judged subjectively by the following criteria: tenure and participation in the Livonia Soccer Club, intent to play soccer in college, involvement in the club / volunteering, soccer accomplishments, goals, completeness and appearance of application.
Deadline is May 24, 2020. To get started, download the LSC Scholarship Application.

As a non-profit, volunteer-driven organization, our sole purpose is to provide the youth in our community with an opportunity to have fun learning the game of soccer. Our club board is made up of local parents and volunteers who are reading, following, and trying to make sense of the ever-changing pandemic rules and guidelines. We are doing our best to plan new and fun activities and we will continue to adapt however necessary on behalf of our players.
We hope all of you and your families stay safe in this difficult time and we hope to see you on the field soon!
